Private Clouds – Threat or Opportunity for Service Providers?

May 09 2011 Published by under Articles

With the cloud services marketplace emerging rapidly, many cloud service providers are working hard to develop and deliver an initial operational capability.  Here at Extrinsica Global we have been delivering cloud services to customers across the globe for over 6 years now and, as a result, we have built up a considerable amount of ‘in the trenches’ experience which has opened up a new and unexpected line of business for us – private clouds.

While there are many businesses who are persuaded of the compelling benefits of cloud-based IT and are prepared to have their IT provided by a cloud service provider, there are other businesses that, for a variety of reasons, feel the initial step into the cloud for them is the implementation of their own private cloud platform.  On the face of it, service providers may view this as something of a setback.  However, we are finding that while some companies want private cloud platforms, there isn’t a great deal of experience out there of building cloud platforms that really do deliver an outstanding user experience.  As a result, demand for our experience is increasing.

Having developed and built our main service delivery cloud platform over the last 6 years, we not only understand the technologies that work well but we also have critical knowledge of what’s necessary in terms of processes and automation, which has been learned from hard-won, front-line experience.  The combination of the quality of our service, our expertise and the length of our experience has led Citrix Systems to regard us as one of the most proficient cloud service providers in the UK; we now work regularly with the Product Development Team at Citrix Systems to influence new product development for cloud service providers.

We are now getting an increasing number of requests from a variety of companies, even aspiring cloud service providers, looking to create and build a cloud delivery capability of their own. They recognise that getting assistance from an established cloud services provider with hands-on, front-line experience in this emerging marketplace is absolutely invaluable, and we see this as a very interesting development.

We understand entirely why some companies want to approach the cloud with caution.  We are also happy to assist them to make the transition to the cloud as positive an experience as possible.  Our view is that  the next logical step for companies that have a good experience with cloud-based IT from their own private cloud would be to realise the compelling financial benefits of getting the same experience from a trusted and competent cloud service provider on an OPEX-based service model.

I have found this article to be most interesting. Being both a competant cloud service provider in your own right as well as catering for the companies wanting to create their own private clouds must be a great position to be in!

Cloud19 we appreciate your kind comments. With this being such an exciting and busy time for cloud service providers we are definately noticing the demand for our expertise increasing as more and more companies are willing to look at the cloud as a viable element to their business model.
