Extrinsica Global’s very own National Champion

Jul 06 2011 Published by under News

Our very own Cliff Milliner became the 2011 Supernova National Champion yesterday down at the Saundersfoot Supernova Nationals. The event took place over the three days of 1st July to 3rd July with 8 races to get in over those three days. Competing against 37 other contenders, Cliff soon sailed to the front (excuse the pun) by accumulating the most points over the three days, winning by just 5 points to clinch the title.

Congratulations Cliff from the whole Extrinsica Global Team… Brilliant effort!

The Extrinsica Global Team Complete the 44 Mile South Downs Epic

Jul 01 2011 Published by under News

Last weekend some of the Extrinsica Global Team took part in the Wiggle Super Series South Downs Epic, a gruelling off-road mountain bike challenge that stretched 44 miles (70km) off road. The route included some incredible inclines and downhill sections across the rolling South Downs in beautiful southern England.

In spite of one of the team experiencing an early puncture and it being the hottest day of the year, reaching temperatures of 29°C, the guys completed the colossal 44 mile off-road course in just over 6 hours. I know there were some aching bodies by the end but it really was an excellent effort guys! I bet your already looking forward to next year…

Cloud Connects the FIFA 2010 World Cup Security Team

Jun 17 2011 Published by under Articles, News

The team responsible for security at the 2010 FIFA World Cup were looking for an IT requirement that could be rapidly deployed to South Africa a system that could be extremely flexible to provision new users on the system when they needed them whilst keeping the data they created highly secure and available to all members of the teams on the ground and back at headquarters in the UK.

The operations manager approached Extrinsica Global to explore the possibilities of deploying the Nomad™ service to the entire team from the Extrinsica Global Cloud Platform based in the UK. The Nomad service allows you to rapidly and flexibly deploy a secure remote working capability for the remote element of your workforce. The service provides integrated business productivity and data access facilities to mobile workers using a secure cloud platform that can work in conjunction with your on-premise system.

Nomad uses the latest software virtualisation technology to give every member of your remote team access to virtualised workspace, with the latest business productivity software applications such as Microsoft Exchange® based email and the Office® suite of applications. Nomad also gives you the ability to access and save files securely in a centralised file store, from anywhere in the world. It enables remote users to work securely from anywhere, at anytime from any device with an Internet connection.

This unique working capability was provisioned for every member of the team before they left the UK for South Africa so that as soon as they stepped off the plane they could access their business productivity applications and files regardless of their physical location in the country.

To find out more about how the team used the Nomad service during the tournament see the full Case Study below by clicking on the PDF.

3 Unique Cloud Offerings From Extrinsica Global

Jun 16 2011 Published by under Articles, News

Extrinsica Global have 3 unique cloud offerings which could dramatically benefit your business. Extrinsica Secure Edge™, Nomad™ and Office Anywhere®

If your users need to work securely on sensitive data outside the corporate network then Secure Edge is the answer.

Extrinsica Secure Edge™ provides highly secure, ultra portable, online/offline virtual workspace that can be rapidly deployed and used anywhere, even in the toughest environments. The Secure Edge Device is based on an IronKey®, which is protected by 256-bit hardware encryption and provides secure access either to online or offline virtual workspace depending on Internet connectivity.

Secure Edge is a virtual working environment that is held on a super portable, highly secured USB device that allows the user to work, collaborate and use their applications when working offline or have use of enterprise-class business productivity cloud applications when working online via the Extrinsica Global Cloud platform. The Secure Edge service takes files created offline and automatically and securely syncs the data back to our ultra secure cloud platform. Data cannot under any circumstances be saved to the client device but only to the key which is 256bit AES encrypted where it is held securely away from any unwanted eyes. This functionality plugs the offline gap in the cloud and is a must have for companies that need to secure sensitive data on the move.

To find out exactly how the Secure Edge device is changing the way organisations are able to operate see how it was used by a global risk management company out in Egypt during the recent civil unrest in our Case Study

Nomad allows you to rapidly and flexibly deploy a secure remote working capability for the remote element of your workforce. The service provides integrated business productivity and data access facilities to mobile workers using a secure cloud platform that can work in conjunction with your on-premise system. Nomad uses the latest VDI software virtualisation technology to give every member of your remote team access to virtualised workspace, with the latest software applications and the ability to access and save files securely in a centralised file store, from anywhere in the world. It enables remote users to work securely from anywhere, at anytime from any device with an Internet connection.

To get a better understanding of how the Nomad service could benefit your business see how it was utilised for the FIFA 2010 World Cup Security Team in our Case Study

Office Anywhere provides secure anywhere, anytime, any device access, improving business efficiency, productivity and flexibility. We use cutting edge technology to deliver whatever software and data access you need to enable your business operations. As a minimum, you get the latest Microsoft Office® and Exchange® facilities and access to a single centralised file system with anywhere, anytime access.

Everything is delivered as individual apps which are seamlessly integrated with your local desktop – whatever it is – on any device. This makes for an easy, intuitive user experience, which you don’t get with a remote desktop.

NHS Researchers Lose Laptop With 8m Patient Records

Jun 15 2011 Published by under Articles, News

The NHS could be in for another data loss nightmare after a laptop goes missing. Could this have easily been avoided?

It has been made public today that 8 million patient records held on an unencrypted laptop have gone missing. Yet another example of individuals personal details going walk abouts. When will people learn that data like this needs to be held in such a way that it doesn’t matter if the laptops break, go missing or otherwise as the data can be held separately from the device in a highly secured manner.

According to the report, the laptop was one of 20 that disappeared from offices of the North Central London Strategic Health Authority. The unencrypted records held details of 8.63 million patients and 18 million hospital visits, procedures and operations. The stolen personal details only recorded gender, age, ethnic origin and postcode but not the patient’s name. Even so, a little research could easily reveal the identity  of the individuals.

If only the research unit had evaluated the seriousness of a possible data leak and anticipated the outcome if such an occurrence should take place, allowing them to utilise measures to mitigate any risks. At Extrinsica Global we try our hardest to educate our current and potential customers on the importance of securing data. Our background in secure Government departments means we have the experience and knowledge to ensure that data is kept secure at all times.

This is just one of the reasons we developed our Secure Edge™ offering.

If the NHS research team had been using a method of working securely as just described the information they created would never be vulnerable to loss or theft and the only concern on the minds of the Government and the people who’s data was stolen would be the loss of a laptop, which in the grand scheme of things is relatively minor.

We urge all those companies using and creating sensitive data to think about their processes and protocols and seek out ways in which to secure the information they use. Secure Edge is one of the best ways in which to make sure your data is accessible at all times by those who are designated to view and manipulate it whilst ensuring that data is kept extremely secure, so that when a users device becomes lost or stolen the data is still safe.

To find out more about the Secure Edge service you can visit our website at www.extrinsicaglobal.com/secureedge or download our Secure Edge Data Sheet and Case Study by clicking these links.
